Become a Wedding & Special Event Planner

The wedding industry is a HUGE business and this is one of the hottest careers available right now. You can expect to make anywhere from around $1,500 to $4,000 and up for a typical wedding in Southern California. Brides will want to know, however, if you are a CERTIFIED wedding planner -- if you've had classes or training in the field and if you are qualified to coordinate their wedding. This class will give you a Certification from Krista Dillin Events as well as a certification from The Wedding Planning Institute (during the same class!), complete with manuals and class materials.

We are going to be offering several different levels of classes. The first classes that we are going to offer is a one day class for 3 hours on a Saturday (class schedule will be posted soon!) These classes are directed twards Brides and their families. The next level of classes will be a Weekend class that is for vendors that are in the business of wedding and special events that want to expand on to their business.

BRIDES AND THEIR FAMILIES CLASS (1 DAY CLASS)

We are holding classes for Brides who are looking for a little more than hiring the typical wedding planner. This is a great class for brides who do not have a wedding planner and want to do it themselves. It is also a great class for the bride who already has a wedding planner and wants to make sure she's getting her money's worth (along with the tips and techniques of the trade!).

In this class, you will learn the following:

- Locations and what to look for (as well as what to avoid)

- How to save money and create a beautiful, elegant wedding

- Tips on how to trim vendor costs (trade secrets)

- How to find the best florist, photographer, videographer, DJ and other vendors

- Navigating bridal shows, the web, wedding magazines and more

- What to look for in a wedding planner

- Avoiding wedding day disasters

- Creating a timeline and wedding day schedule

- Where to get your marriage license (and what you need)

- Budgeting basics -- and beyond!

- Keeping yourself organized

- Unique, creative ideas for themed weddings / how to create a theme

- Special guests will teach you what you need to know about planning your wedding

Class includes continental breakfast, a gourmet lunch, snacks, gifts and lots of surprises and giveaways along the way.

Cost:

$300per couple (couple may include Bride and Groom, Bride and Mom or Bride and Friend). Class materials and handouts are included in the cost. You will also receive a wedding binder and a beautiful tote bag when you arrive at the class. We will waive the class fee if you register for our Wedding Certification Classes.

BECOME A WEDDING AND SPECIAL EVENT PLANNER (8 WEEK COURSE)

This will be a 8-week class. We will be meeting once a week for approximately 2 hours each class. We will be covering all aspects of planning events small and large.

The class will cover the following topics in all aspects of wedding and event planning, with the emphasis on weddings:

- How to plan weddings and other events

- How to choose the best vendors / recommendations and referrals

- Location, rentals, invitations, gowns, wedding styles, florals and decor

- Wedding supplies and services, cakes, pastries, favors, transportation

- Photography, videography, officiants, linens, wedding party attire, attendants roles

- Pre and post-wedding parties, destination weddings, other events

- Etiquette, table setting, music and entertainment, catering , bars and menus

- Budgeting and contact management

- Wedding ceremony and reception timelines, rehearsals

- Trends, themes, colors, wedding styling, fabrics

- Customs, traditions, facts, stats, wedding history, cultural events

- The consultant's role and how to carry it out, meetings with brides

- Working with professionals, families, emergencies, emergency kits

- Small details and tricks of the trade

- Seating arrangements and charts, floor plans, diagrams, layouts

- Much more!

This is a fun, hands-on class; however, you will have some reading to do before you come to class (to get you prepared for each class). The class is $1,500.00 for the 8-week course, which now also covers your material fee, certifications and a binder / workbook. Additional books, manuals, wedding music CD, workbooks and more are available at an additional cost, if you choose those (ask about this when you sign up for your class).

During the class, you will be assigned a project, which will be completed shortly after the class. You will then be invited to a graduation luncheon or tea, where you will receive your certificates. Once you begin planning eventsy, please remember that we are here to help with any questions you may have or suggestions to help you. You will have a mentor as you begin your first event or series of bride meetings (you're not just out there on your own after you take the class). We want you to be successful, so we're here to give you the support you need.

This is a fun, hands-on class; however, you will have some reading to do before you come to class (to get you prepared for each class). The class is $2,500.00 for the 10-week course, which now also covers your material fee, certifications and a binder / workbook. Additional books, manuals, wedding music CD, workbooks and more are available at an additional cost, if you choose those (ask about this when you sign up for your class). Keep in mind that you are able to deduct these items on your taxes, as you intend to start a business and/or obtain training for a career in wedding planning. Private Classes

At the request of some of our students, we are also now offering private one-on-one classes at a fee of $3,000 (total fee, including certification). This class will cover all of the elements that are covered in the regular classes and will take place over several weeks on the schedules of both instructor and student. We'll also tour locations, vendors and more. It also includes on-site assistance at your first event. This is a special rate that will go up in 2009, so book your private classes early.

In 2008, we will be holding all Southern California classes in Santa Clarita, California . If you do not live in or near Santa Clarita, you may consider staying the weekend. We will be able to assist you in securing a hotel for your visit here in the beautiful Los Angeles County area of Santa Clarita if you are interested (you will need to pay for your own lodging, meals and transportation). Please call to obtain an itinerary of our class schedule. Remember that our class size is limited. We will be planning some weekend courses if we have enough people that are interested.
